Judge Damiane “Dianne” Curvey

280th Family District Court
Harris County, Texas

About

Born and reared in Houston, Texas, Damiane was always a champion of justice for those who could not fight for themselves. In fact, at 6 years old, she was responsible for the dismissal of a teacher who physically assaulted her younger cousins. She has never been able to sit by and watch injustice without fighting the “good fight”.She graduated from M.B. Smiley High School with honors, went on to The University of Texas at Austin and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Radio TV Film, which she later used in her acting career. Damiane starred in a national Meineke commercial with George Foreman and a regional Casa Ole’ commercial with Jose Lima, among other creative endeavors. She even tried her hand in stand-up comedy and produced several shows. For her church, she wrote and produced a number of gospel plays that allowed both the children and the adults to explore their creative side while expressing their religious beliefs.Damiane earned her Secondary Teacher Certification from the University of Houston Downtown campus. From there, she went on to teach English/Language Arts in Aldine ISD and Houston ISD. Her love for teaching was not abandoned when she entered law school at Thurgood Marshall School of Law. She was a Torts Tutor, a Research Assistant, Managing Editor of Law Review, Vice-President of her 3L class and graduated with honors. The Banieh Law Firm was formed in 2005, and Damiane worked as a sole practitioner. In 2008, she took the bold step to volunteer to represent the FLDS (Fundamental Latter Day Saints) families who temporarily lost their children to CPS after there were allegations of improper relations with children. She used the law to not only help these children to be returned, but also formed relationships with these families to help them better understand how to protect their children. Damiane ascended to the bench as the Judge of the 280th Family District Court on January 1, 2023 and currently serves families in need of protective orders. The issuance and enforcement of protective orders that align with the People’s desire to reduce crime and protect citizens is her paramount goal. Developing and utilizing resources that cover and protect trafficked individuals remains at the forefront of her work on the bench. As a responsible gun owner, the removal of firearms from those individuals who seek to harm victims has been her battle since she took on the role of Judge. Her mentorship program for law
students and newly licensed attorneys remains her most prized accomplishment, as teaching has always been at her heart’s core.
Damiane has two children, Nick and Emma and her beloved pets, Ginger the dog and Law, the “purrilegal” cat.
